A special bottling from the last drops of the 1998 vintage barrels of 100% Trinidad molasses rum, once produced at the Caroni Distillery. Caroni 17 Extra Strong is an independent bottling from Velier. This rum matured in Trinidad for fifteen years in a Bourbon cask, then was sent to Scotland, where it was aged for two more years and finally bottled in 2015. The ageing in the island's tropical climate gives this rum a lighter petrol aroma and an intense bouquet. The label is based on the 1940s original design.
Tasting notes
Amber with copper hues
The maturation in oak barrels gives this rum a sweet aroma of vanilla, cocoa and banana peel.
Full-bodied with mellow notes of cocoa, molasses, and spices, followed by hints of flowers and citrus peel.
Long with notes of tobacco, spices and sweet fruit.
The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1923 on the site of an old sugarcane plantation; in 2002 it closed its doors and no longer exists. Today it is a lost distillery known for producing heavy, full-flavored rums.
