Port Ellen: Untold Stories Spirit Safe is the 1st release of the new Untold Stories Series. Matured in ex-bourbon and refill European Oak sherry casks, this 39-year-old single malt has a fruity, smoky character with notes of sultanas, melons & limes, with a hint of ginger. A gentle peat smoke builds in the background alongside a savoury sea-salt element. The whisky comes in an elegant wooden box with two unique keys - mimicking the spirit safe at the distillery. This is and will become a real collector's treasure. Only 9 bottles for Switzerland.
Port Ellen distillery closed its doors in 1983, while open it wasn't very popular, its production only lasted sixteen years. Back then, no one knew how wonderful their whiskies would turn out to be, today is one of Islay’s best-known distilleriesAnnual editions and rare releases by independent bottles can be found but the supply of Port Ellen whisky is limited, only a few remaining casks are hidden in warehouses across Scotland. Some casks are owned by Diageo and are part of their Rare and Exceptional range of whiskies which showcases iconic “ghost” distilleries as well as specialities from active distilleries.
