Bowmore 12 Years Old sits at the heart of the distillery's permanent collection. This is the 2025 release, bottled at 40% volume. Its peat is more moderate than the medicinal intensity of Islay's southern-shore distilleries, making it a natural introduction to the island's peated single malts. MATURATION: The whisky is matured in hand-selected American oak casks that previously held bourbon, and in European oak casks that held Oloroso sherry. SUGGESTIONS: Serve neat in a tulip glass, with still water alongside to add by the drop. Smoked salmon on rye bread or an aged Comté make good companions. With a cigar, choose a mild to medium Dominican robusto.

Bowmore stands on the shore of Loch Indaal, in the Islay village that shares its name. It is said to have been established in 1779 by the local merchant John P. Simson. The distillery still malts part of its own barley on traditional floors, one of the few in Scotland to do so. During the Second World War, RAF Coastal Command used the site and operated flying boats from the loch. Suntory has owned Bowmore since 1994.
