Bowmore 15 Years Old belongs to a collection of four single malts with age statements from 12 to 21 years. It is a separate release from the core-range expression of the same age and is bottled at 43% volume. MATURATION: The whisky matured in European oak casks that had held Oloroso and in American oak barrels that had held bourbon. It was then finished in European casks seasoned with Oloroso. SUGGESTIONS: Serve neat in a tulip glass, with water alongside to add a drop at a time. Smoked salmon or a mature hard cheese such as aged Gouda makes a good accompaniment. For a cigar, choose a medium-bodied Nicaraguan or Dominican smoke.
Tasting notes
Deep, subdued crimson.
Moist Corinth raisins, sweet dates, cocoa beans, cinnamon and dark chocolate, with subtle smoke.
Cedarwood, treacle toffee, boiled sweets, clove and liquorice root.
Rich and woody, with lasting sweet spice.
On the south-eastern shore of Loch Indaal, Bowmore still operates its own floor maltings, which supply part of the malted barley it uses. The distillery traces its origins to 1779 and is the oldest working distillery on Islay. Suntory bought its owner, Morrison Bowmore Distillers, in 1994.
