Bowmore 18 Years Old belongs to the distillery's permanent collection; this is the 2025 release, bottled at 43% volume. MATURATION: The whisky is drawn from hand-selected casks of two kinds: American oak that previously held bourbon, and European oak that held Oloroso sherry. SUGGESTIONS: Serve neat in a tulip glass, with still water alongside; a few drops open up the aroma. Aged Gouda or a slice of fruit cake makes a good accompaniment. For a cigar pairing, choose a medium-bodied Dominican or Nicaraguan robusto.
Tasting notes
Mellow mahogany, rich and woody in tone.
Candied orange, delicate peat smoke, creamy caramel, toffee, ripe nectarine, butterscotch and menthol.
Toasted almonds, nutmeg, floral confectionery, fennel seed and liquorice, then dark chocolate, honeycomb, maple syrup and juicy orange.
Warm, long and complex, with light smoke like a freshly rekindled fire.
Bowmore stands on the south-eastern shore of Loch Indaal, in the Islay village that shares its name. The distillery dates its origins to 1779 and is the oldest working distillery on the island.A traditional malting floor still supplies part of its barley, and casks mature on site, including in the No.1 Vaults. Suntory acquired the owner, Morrison Bowmore Distillers, in 1994.
