Alexander Matheson founded Dalmore in 1839 at Alness, on the Cromarty Firth. Andrew and Charles Mackenzie took over its operation in 1867 and bought the distillery in 1891. They added their family’s twelve-point stag emblem to the bottles. The Mackenzie family retained ownership until Whyte & Mackay acquired the distillery in 1960.
