Linkwood 1978 is a rare Speyside single malt from Diageo's 2016 Special Releases. The edition comprised 6,114 individually numbered bottles. MATURATION: The whisky spent 37 years in refill American oak hogsheads and refill European oak butts. A deliberate choice that preserved the floral, waxy character of the distillate rather than adding wood influence. Refill wood at this age means the oak contributes structure and integration without ever overshadowing the whisky. It was bottled at its natural cask strength of 50.3%. SUGGESTIONS: Serve neat in a Glencairn glass, with water alongside to adjust the strength.
