Clarendon 1995 by The Wild Parrot is a Jamaican single cask bottled in 2020 by the Italian independent bottler linked to Hidden Spirits. Cask WP95659 was released at 65.9% volume after 24 years, with the label keeping the focus exactly where it belongs: one distillery, one vintage, one powerful cask. AGEING: long island maturation gives this rum a very concentrated frame. The oak has not softened it into sweetness; it has tightened the structure around Clarendon's high-strength distillate and left a firm, dry, commanding profile. SERVING: serve neat at room temperature in a small tulip glass; wait before adding water, then use single drops only. Pair with high-cacao chocolate, aged hard cheese or La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel, a future FiGee cigar with enough strength and draw focus for this cask.
Tasting notes
Deep amber gold.
Overripe banana, guava, acetone, eucalyptus, polished oak, dried herbs and dark molasses.
Dense and hot; tropical fruit, barrel grip, camphor, salted liquorice and bitter orange.
Long, dry and firm, with resin, clove, black tea and lingering Jamaican ester lift.
Clarendon, widely known through the Monymusk estate, is one of Jamaica's central rum distilleries. It works with both pot and column distillation, producing marks that range from lighter blending styles to ester-rich traditional Jamaican profiles. The 1990s Clarendon casks have become serious hunting ground for independent bottlers because they combine high-strength character, tropical depth and a more structured house style than Hampden's wildest marques.
