For this bottling, independent bottler Chapter 7 tried something different and finished the contents of a bourbon hogshead in 3 octave casks, a special blend of two Oloroso and one Ruby Port wood. Glen Elgin 13 years old is part of the Monologue range of single cask, single malt Scotch whiskies, where no two casks are the same. Monologue whisky is a unique expression. It tells the story of the distillery that produced the whisky and the cask where it matured. Distilled in November 2007, bottled in September 2021 at cask strength 52 % abv. All-natural colour, non chill filtered. Limited edition of 233 bottles.
Tasting notes
Sour cherries, dried plums and figs, ginger and peppers.
90 hours of fermentation and slow distillation give Glen Elgin a distinctive fruitiness with notes of stewed pears, red fruits, dark chocolate and baking spices.
Licorice, burnt caramel, spicy mint.
Chapter 7 was founded in 2014 by Selim Evin and was named after Shakespeare's poem "The Seven Ages of Man", which Adam would consider to be his inspiration. An additional impulse also came from the family ties to whisky, and a new bottler was born. Initially inspired by the world of Scotch, the brand specialised in Grain and Irish Whisky before moving on to blending its own malts.
