The Isle of Jura distillery was founded by Archibald Campbell in 1810 and named the Small Isles Distillery. It was some eight years after the License Act of 1823 that William Abercombie obtained a license for the distillery, renaming it Isle Of Jura. This single malt, single cask whisky was aged in Bourbon Hogshead cask no.2144, bottled at cask strength by independent bottler Chapter 7. Distilled in September 1998 and bottled in March 2020. Non-chill-filtered and no added coloring. Limited release of only 284 bottles.
Tasting notes
Straw-Yellow
Fresh herbs, green tea and warm brioche
Remarkably fruity with heavy notes of oranges, green apples & salted caramel. The palate has an oily texture and salty maritime character with soot and smoke beyond the grassy fruitiness.
Long, grassy with licorice in the aftertaste
Chapter 7 was founded in 2014 by Selim Evin and took its name from Shakespeare's poem "The Seven Ages of Man", which Adam would endorse as inspiration. An additional impulse also came from the family ties to whisky, and a new bottler was born. Initially inspired by the world of Scotch, the brand specialised in grain and Irish whisky before moving on with blending their own malts.
