Kilkerran 8 Years Old | 2024 Campbeltown Single Malt | Cask Strength

Kilkerran 8 Years 2024 | Single Malt Campbeltown Scotch Whisky

Kilkerran 8 Years Old 2024 is Glengyle's annual cask-strength release from Campbeltown. This edition spent its full maturation in oloroso-seasoned oak and is bottled at 57.4% volume, non-chill-filtered and natural colour.

CASK PROGRAMME: There is no secondary finish and no blend of bourbon and sherry casks, so the maturation statement is simple: one age, one wood programme, bottled at cask strength.

SERVING: add water slowly in a Glencairn and give it time to settle before judging the spirit. It suits aged Manchego, Stilton, dark chocolate or fruit cake. With cigars, choose a medium-bodied Nicaraguan or Honduran robusto rather than something too heavy.

Tasting notes

Color

Deep mahogany with amber-bronze edges.

Aroma

Ripe black cherry, dried fig, cocoa nib, toasted walnut and a whisper of sea salt.

Taste

Dark chocolate, stewed plum, espresso, clove and a signature oily maritime texture threading through.

Finish

Long, warming finish with dried fruit, gentle brine and a fading thread of toasted oak.

GLENGYLE DISTILLERY

Founded in 1872 by William Mitchell on the Kintyre peninsula, Glengyle closed in 1925 during Campbeltown's long decline. In 2000, Hedley Wright of J. & A. Mitchell, the family behind Springbank, bought and fully rebuilt the site; production restarted in 2004.

Because the Glengyle name was already registered for a blend, the single malts carry the name Kilkerran, the old Gaelic name for Campbeltown itself. The first new Campbeltown single malt of the 21st century. House style: lightly peated, saline, maritime, oily.
