A premium Islay whisky that has been matured in a combination of Sherry Oloroso casks and Ex-Bourbon barrels, non-chill filtered. Made with malted barley dried over a peat fire, the smoke from this peat is found only on Islay, giving Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. Laphroaig 25 is a rich, elegant and well-balanced whisky with smoky, leathery and sweet notes. Bottled in 2016 for the Cask Strength Edition series, this release is presented in an elegant wooden case.
Tasting notes
Pale ochre.
Soft aromas of burned caramel, apples and earthy peat.
This whisky is overlaid with a delicate salty tang that compliments the whisky's notes of dried fruits, cinnamon, and smoky peat. The ageing in bourbon cask has yielded a creamy and buttery taste to it, on the other hand, the sherry casks bring mineral and vegetable flavours combined with a medium-dry mouthfeel.
Long and slightly dry with sweet echoing notes.
Laphroaig has a long history dating back to 1815. Nowadays the distillery still uses its original malting floors as well as their 200-year-old method of cold smoke peating, both methods contribute to the unique flavour of their whiskies. The hand-cut peat found near the sea is transferred to the ancient kilns with the malt laid out on the malting floor. Several hours of cold smoking allows the barley to be infused until the right level of peat smoke is attained. This process gives the barley, layers of rich smoky and medicinal notes. The distillery is owned by Beam Suntory and still producing the “most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies”
