Fruity, waxy and robust! The first Singleton Glen Ord in this series has a unique intricate five cask maturation and marrying process. This is thought to be the first time that five different kinds of wood have been used to mature a Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Triple matured for richness and depth of flavour.
Tasting notes
Deep straw yellow
Soft and gentle, with appetising aromas of baked apple and orange zest, beeswax, crystallized orange and cedar-like spice. Grows sweeter, with hints of brown sugar and sponge cake; then fruity, with red apple and honey. Finally, embracing warmth.
Smooth, sweet and spicy, with some acidity, even a shake of salt. Fruity, with a lightly smoky-savoury edge. Raisin-rich, with smooth barley sugar, before growing powerful and mint-clean; then drier and lightly chalky.
Long, with an enduring warmth. Clean and pleasingly bitter, with a gentle, cleansing pine-dryness.
The Diageo Special Releases 2018 collection features a single malt Scotch usually reserved for sale in the far east. Feast your eyes on The Singleton of Glen Ord, a complex dram thanks to the five-cask maturation process it undergoes across 14 years. It was aged initially in ex-sherry European oak and ex-bourbon refill American oak casks before it was moved to ex-Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel casks. Finally, it was married together in European oak puncheons before it was bottled at a cask strength 57.6% ABV.
