Laphroaig has a long history dating back to 1815. Nowadays, the distillery still uses its original malting floors and a 200-year-old method of cold-smoke peating, both of which contribute to the unique flavour of their whiskies. The hand-cut peat found near the sea is transferred to the ancient kilns with the malt laid out on the malting floor. Several hours of cold smoking allow the barley to be infused with a balanced level of peat smoke. This process imparts the barley with layers of rich, smoky, and medicinal notes. The distillery is owned by Beam Suntory and is still producing the “most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies”
