On April 12th 2019 Luca Gargano and 26 Caroni fans gathered to select six barrels of rums from 1998 to create this blend, dedicated to Kevon "Slippery" Moreno" who has worked at the distillery for 10 years. Distilled in 1996 and aged entirely in the Trinidad. During that time, the angel’s share claimed 85% of the spirit. This rum is part of the Caroni Employees series, a true gem and a very precious collector's bottle from an era of rums that no longer exists. Limited edition of only 1400 bottles that will surely be coveted by collectors and enthusiasts.
Tasting notes
Dark Amber, Mahogany
Being bottled at 69.5% makes the initial impression overpowering and intense, a few minutes in the glass allow the more complex aromas come to life. Orange peels, red currants and marzipan caught on a cloud of fuel fumes.
On the palate, the aromas from the nose come back, but now the waxy-gum trait is much more noticeable. Full-bodied with enticing brown sugar, buttery toffee, and oily-rubbery notes.
Powerful and intense with hints of eucalyptus and oak spice lingering in at the end, the finish is medium long.
The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1923 on the site of an old sugarcane plantation, in 2002 it closed its doors and it no longer exists. Today it is a lost distillery known for their heavy, full-flavoured rums.
