This bottling expresses perfectly the spirit of Demerara, sweet, bitter and salty, with a spicy, silky and slightly balsamic palate. This sophisticated single cask rum was distilled by Demerara Distillers in Guyana and subsequently bottled in Scotland in July 2017 by the independent bottler Samaroli. Limited edition of only 318 numbered bottles.
Tasting notes
Luminous straw yellow
Rich bouquet of raisined grapes, ripe fruits and leathery aromas accompanied by smoky undertones and a slight hint of thyme and toasted oregano complete this exquisite rum.
Wonderfully complex side, incredibly lively, sweet and bitter… water and salt...Notes of toffee and brown sugar provide sweetness. Cloves, cardamom and nutmeg add a spicy note. The sweet and warmly spicy tones are rounded off by a hint of tobacco and gentle oak.
Its round finish is not known to be very fruity. Its almost thirty-year-old aging has made it soft, harmonious and refined. Complex and full-bodied with hints of tobacco, light mint and a whiff of liquorice complete this extraordinarily exciting finish. The best way to enjoy it is to drink it pure.
The Samaroli Demerara rum 1990/2017 is especially full of character and has been named in honour of its region and producer. Cultivated along the Demerara River, the sugar cane was first refined into molasses and then distilled in a 17th century wooden double still. After its distillation in 1990, this rare and precious drop has been transferred to oak barrels. Samaroli Demerara rum does not fully mature in its native country under a tropical climate, but has been stored by a Scottish company. After approximately 27 years, the rum will be bottled as a limited edition of about 300 units and made accessible to the market. The connoisseurs appreciate the high-quality rum from French Guiana due to its characteristic style of Demerara rum and its far above-average maturing time.
