Tasting notes
Very ripe banana, pineapple, and mango, with lime and orange peel on top. Where does the classic Jamaican character show up? In a light, funky note, backed by clove and nutmeg. On the palate, the fruit stays bright, then molasses sweetness builds, with a touch of black pepper and a mild earthy tone.
The finish is long, with candied citrus and a soft caramel echo.
The Hampden Estate is known for its pot-still rums, wild fermentation, and a high-ester spirit style. This often means a rum with strong fruit notes, a distinct Jamaican “funk”, and clear intensity—especially when bottled from one cask. Wondering why high ester matters? In rum, esters are aroma compounds formed during fermentation, which create bold fruit aromas and the unmistakable Jamaican aromatic edge.
