Blair Athol 2011 / 10 Years Old Chapter 7 Single Cask Whisky | 2022 Release

Blair Athol 2011 / 10 Years Old Single Malt Highland Scotch Whisky | Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Blair Athol 2011 is a single-cask Highland single malt bottled by indie bottler Chapter 7 — distilled November 2011 at Blair Athol Distillery, matured in bourbon hogshead #308058, bottled October 2022 at 50.5% volume. A total of 313 bottles, natural colour, non-chill-filtered. Blair Athol, Pitlochry's principal distillery and a key component in the Bell's blend, is rarely seen as a single cask at age; Chapter 7's Monologue series isolates the distillery's gentle, fruit-forward malt character in its clearest form.

MATURATION: eleven years in a bourbon hogshead allow Blair Athol's naturally expressive fruit character to develop without the interference of heavy wood: fresh orange and tangerine on the nose, floral honey and custard in the mid, with dark chocolate and espresso appearing in the background. On the palate, the fruit is vibrant — orange juice, ripe pear — supported by vanilla, raisins and a whisper of cornbread from the American oak. The 50.5% volume at natural strength preserves the hogshead's contribution in full.

SERVING: serve neat in a Glencairn at room temperature — this is a gentle, expressive dram that doesn't need complexity to impress. Allow three minutes: the orange and floral notes settle into a warm custard and vanilla palate. Five drops of water open the raisins and dark chocolate in the background and add length to the finish.

BLAIR ATHOL DISTILLERY

Situated in Pitlochry, Perthshire, at the heart of the Scottish Highlands, Blair Athol is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries — its origins trace back to 1798, when John Steward and Robert Robertson established what was then known as 'Aldour'. Acquired by Arthur Bell and Sons in 1933, fully rebuilt and reopened in 1949, the distillery is today owned by Diageo. Blair Athol's signature character — nutty, fruity, gently rounded — stems from the deliberate use of cloudy worts and short fermentations, a practice carefully maintained through successive generations. While most of its output feeds the Bell's blended whisky, occasional exceptional casks reach independent bottlers who reveal the full depth of this Highland single malt.
