Blackberry, wild strawberry and dark cherry open into tropical fruit — pineapple, tinned peach, apricot — carried by red apple skin, cassis and dried coconut.
Fruit-forward palate — pineapple, baked banana, mango — with an almost brandy-like softness and remarkably syrupy texture.
Long finish of wild honey, vanilla and a gentle spice warmth. Dried tropical fruit and candied orange peel linger, supported by patinated, unassertive oak.
On Islay's west coast, Bruichladdich Distillery was founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. Its tall Victorian stills, rigorous barley traceability and refusal of chill-filtration make it one of the most distinctive voices of modern Scotch whisky. Mothballed in 1994, it was acquired in 2000 by Mark Reynier, Jim McEwan and Simon Coughlin and resumed production in 2001. 'Pre-renaissance' stocks distilled before the closure — including the 1992 vintage — represent less than 1% of the distillery's inventory and feed exclusively exceptional releases. The Black Art series, conceived by Jim McEwan and continued since 2015 by Head Distiller Adam Hannett, is the most enigmatic: rare vattings whose exact composition is known only to the Master Distiller.
