The limited edition celebrates the 200th anniversary of the distillery. During its long ageing in sherry oloroso casks, the single malt developed an intense tasting profile with fruity sherry notes complemented with the smoky peated flavour that Laphroaig has always been known.
Tasting notes
Warm mahogany red with autumn reflections.
Floral and earthy with a light aroma of dark oak wood, toffee and liquorice. The sherry is delicate but noticeable on the nose. There are rich notes of dark berries, cherries and fruity cake.
Its velvety texture encases sweet, smoky & spicy notes. Earthy light peppery notes and big wood spices linger on the tongue. Loads of dried fruits, apples and tangy mandarins emerge with a few drops of water.
The finish is long and bold. Sherry and dark chocolate notes with vanilla and caramelized butterscotch, there is a little smoke, but not too much. A lot of the cask strength has overpowered the peat and the sherry.
Laphroaig has a long history dating back to 1815. Nowadays the distillery still uses its original malting floors as well as their 200-year-old method of cold smoke peating, both methods contribute to the unique flavour of their whiskies. The hand-cut peat found near the sea is transferred to the ancient kilns with the malt laid out on the malting floor. Several hours of cold smoking allows the barley to be infused until the right level of peat smoke is attained. This process gives the barley, layers of rich smoky and medicinal notes. The distillery is owned by Beam Suntory and still producing the “most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies”
