Le Piane La Maggiorina 2022 is an Alto Piemonte red from 80 to 100-year-old vines trained in the traditional Maggiorina system on the volcanic soils of Boca. The 2022 blend brings together Nebbiolo (approx. 40%), Croatina (approx. 40%) and four additional indigenous varieties — Vespolina, Erbaluce and Malvasia di Boca. Vinified in stainless steel with a brief 4–5-day maceration, then 12 months in tank. At 13 % vol., pure freshness and minerality of Alto Piemonte. Drink within 5 years or cellar to 2030.
WINEMAKING: Nebbiolo approx. 40%, Croatina approx. 40%, plus Vespolina, Erbaluce and Malvasia di Boca — around six indigenous varieties from 80–100-year-old Maggiorina-trained vines on volcanic Boca soils. Brief 4–5-day maceration, stainless steel only, 12 months in tank before bottling. 13 % vol. No oak — the volcanic terroir and old vines do the work.
WHAT DOES LA MAGGIORINA 2022 TASTE LIKE? Wild red fruits, sour cherry and violet on the nose, with mineral nuances, dried rose and a light touch of pepper. The volcanic terroir speaks in the notes of liquorice, leather and underbrush. On the palate: lively and juicy, bright acidity giving momentum, fine tightly-knit tannins — the Nebbiolo character without Barolo's weight. A remarkable value in Alto Piemonte: old vines, volcanic soil, five indigenous varieties. Serve at 16 °C with pasta, white meats or semi-hard cheese.
