As to be expected from Taylor, the quality of the fruits is extremely fine and highly concentrated, although the year seems to have given the wine an extra coat of density and heaviness. A familiar whiff of violet hangs over the wine along with rose petals and wild minty herbal aromas.

1994 was an outstanding year in the Douro, acclaimed for producing one of the classic
Vintage Ports of the twentieth century. Besides the exceptional lots chosen for bottling
as Vintage Port, Peter Symington made a selection of other outstanding wines sourced
from Quinta dos Malvedos and Quinta das Lages, which he earmarked for long term
ageing in seasoned oak casks for future release as old tawny Ports. Peter’s son Charles,
who joined the company in early 1995, worked with his father in selecting the wines,
both for bottle-ageing (Vintage) and long term wood-ageing (old and very old tawnies).
Since Peter’s retirement in 2009, Charles succeeded him as head winemaker and taster
and having accompanied these wines’ development over the last 23 years he has now
selected 19 casks that he identified as showing particularly fine structure and elegance,
meriting their bottling as Graham’s 1994 Single Harvest Tawny.
The 2016 Vintage Port is a blend of 37% Touriga Nacional, 42% Touriga Franca and various others. It comes in with 115 grams of residual sugar. This is an intense full wine. Tight on the finish, aromatic and very flavorful, this actually opens rather well and shows off its lovely fruit. As always, Graham's is wonderfully delicious. That's one hallmark of the house. There were 6,325 cases produced, plus some bottles in other formats.
Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port was the first to be made by Prats & Symington, who purchased the estate in 2009. This 2016 is a small production vintage with just 390 cases, 4.680 bottles released to the market. It is a fabulous accompaniment to chocolate desserts, such as chocolate pudding, but can also be enjoyed on its own - it is an experience in itself.
After a decade of slow oak-maturation, this wine is a fine example of the complex flavors of Tawny Port, a wine for those who appreciate quality in every detail.

Made from a blend of traditional Portuguese varieties from the Douro Valley, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. Aged up to 5 years in oak casks in the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia Then the wine is drawn off and bottled after a light filtration in bottles.
